On-iku by Earthscape Lab. A temporary installation in an old wooden apartment in Beppu. Earthscape Lab approached On-iku by studying the relationship between people and the environment. Earthscape Lab conducts research to improve human imagination, through experiments on the environmental compatibility of plants and animals, artifacts and geological surveys. This particular installation takes the magic of the unique onsen water and the strength of Beppu’s plants to convey a strong message of the power of this geological treasure.
“I feel that the only way to know the future is to first know the past, and then to know the present. Itʼs called kougengaku (ʻthe study of modern social phenomenaʼ) in Japanese.”-Eiki Danzuka of Earthscape.
